My first musical experiences go back to my childhood when I learned to play the drums and the piano. At the age of 13 I began to study composition at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago de Chile. With an integral education in harmony, analysis, counterpoint, orchestration and piano, Maestro Cirilo Vila became an essential figurehead for my further musical identity. In the last phase of my studies, my interest in orchestral conducting opened up, which is why I began this study in 2006 under the dedicated guidance of David del Pino Klinge. It was during this time that I gained my first practical experience with orchestras. This includes, for example, Assistant Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Caracas (Venezuela) on their 2008 tour of Germany and Croatia and several Assistantships with the Orquesta Clásica de la Universidad de Santiago. Of particular importance to me were also concerts with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile, the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Concepción, as well as working with composers of my generation and conducting the local youth and children's orchestra in the city of Rancagua from 2008 to 2012. During these years I also participated in master classes for the first time, whereby I would like to emphasize the experiences with Zsolt Nagy, Helmuth Rilling and Lutz Köhler. At the same time, my curiosity led me to explore the field of popular music as a member of the progressive rock-folk band Estación Libertad, with whom I recorded two albums.
In 2014 my wishes to deepen my orchestral conducting studies in Germany materialized, first at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf under Rüdiger Bohn as an inspiring mentor with a scholarship from Chile's Fondo de la Música Nacional and then for further training in contemporary music with a scholarship from the renowned Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt am Main as conductor of the IEMA Ensemble 2017/18.
During my stay in Germany I conducted concerts with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Liebhaberorchester NRW, the Bergische Symphoniker and the Orchestra of the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf. During this time I was also invited by orchestras in Chile, Argentina and Peru.
In 2015, I founded together with the composers Francisco Concha Goldschmidt and Christian Vásquez Miranda the Kommas Ensemble, a group based in Cologne, which has performed at important festivals for contemporary music such as Acht Brücken 2018 and Werft Festival 2019 in Cologne, Frakzionen Bielefeld 2017 and 2020 and the Festival Mixtur 2017 in Barcelona.
From 2016 to 2017 I conducted the Concerto Langenfeld, an amateur orchestra near Düsseldorf. I ended this activity to concentrate fully on conducting the IEMA Ensemble in Frankfurt am Main. With the latter I performed on various stages such as the Cologne Philharmonic, the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, as well as at festivals such as Gaudeamus Muziekweek Utrecht and the Wittener Tage für Neue Musik. The good energy and cohesive character of the ensemble led to the group continuing to work under the name Broken Frames Syndicate after the end of the academic year.
Living in Europe has enabled me to take part in several master classes such as Holliger 80 of the Eötvös Foundation, Critical Orchestra Berlin, Bartók Festival & Seminar, Järvi Academy and to learn from artists such as Peter Eötvös, Heinz Holliger, Lothar Zagrosek and Colin Metters among others. The first prize at the Graz Conducting Master Class & Competition 2014 as well as my participation in the Atlantic Coast Conducting Competition, Portugal 2015 (finalist) and the Conducting Competition Cittá di Brescia-Giancarlo Facchinetti 2019 (semi-finalist) are also important experiences for my professional development.
In addition to my activities with the Kommas Ensemble and the Broken Frames Syndicate, I have recently taken on musical assistances in the Ensemble Modern as well as at the Bonn Opera in the productions "Marx in London" by Jonathan Dove and "Der Rosenkavalier" by Richard Strauss.
